Latest Updates from Our Project:

Rallying the Troops
almost 4 years ago – Tue, May 05, 2020 at 11:54:21 PM

Hello, Legends! Maggie here with your first May update.

In our last update, we said that files were on track to be turned over to the factory by May 1st, but as we communicated internally last week about final drafts and taking inventory of all of the outstanding items, it became clear that the deadline would not be possible.

We underestimated the amount of content in this game, and the amount of time it would take to layout. We have had one graphic designer working on this project because that is the bandwidth we had and he was very familiar with the game, but that wasn’t fair. We needed more people to help lift this game from where it was in July of last year to where it is today, and now we know that. We brought another graphic designer in to assist with the layout of both storybooks and the rulebook. Her name is SaRae Henderson; you might know her as the lead graphic designer for theSpirit Island line of games.

We have also met (using the internet - still observing social distancing over here!) several times within the last two weeks to ensure we know the status of every item in Legends of Sleepy Hollow (see below) so that our graphic designers can divide and conquer.

We are not including new timelines and due dates in this update. We need to see what work can be completed in the next two weeks, and then we will include timelines and due dates in the May 19th update.

What is in progress?

Below is a list of everything that we are currently working on for Legends of Sleepy Hollow, and some details about where it’s at in the process and what the next steps are. Final review means that the layout is complete, a round of edits has been done, and we are looking it over before passing it off to the factory.

  • Storybook: needs example art inserted, edits, and final review
  • Expansion Storybook: finishing up layout, needs example art inserted, edits, and final review
  • Rulebook/Player Guide: finishing up layout, edits, and final review
  • Chapter Cards 1-5: final review
  • Chapter Cards 6-10: edits, and final review
  • Chapter Cards 11 & 12 (expansion): finishing layout, edits, and final review
  • Tokens: layout, and final review
  • Maps: final review
  • Legend boards: final review

There’s a lot of work done, and a lot of work to be done still. We will continue to keep you informed during our bi-weekly updates and have an updated timeline in our May 19th update.

Stay safe, and see y’all next time!

Graphic design nearly complete!
almost 4 years ago – Thu, Apr 23, 2020 at 06:07:06 AM

Hello, Legends!

Maggie here. I apologize for the late update - we were so focused on work, we didn’t realize how late it was! Today’s update is all about graphic design and production now that Darrell is on the mend and able to work.

Graphic Design

Jeremiah Pincke's Legend board Kickstarter asset and final version

Above you can see the new layout for Legend boards, using Jeremiah Pincke as the example, side by side with the old layout. Let’s talk about what’s changed!

  • Three accessory card slots: these are unique items that each Legends gains throughout their journey!
  • Ultimate Ability card slot: Legends get stronger throughout the game, and eventually acquire an Ultimate Ability unique to their build that can be used once per chapter!
  • Deep Breath: This is a Legend specific action. For Jeremiah, it’s Deep Breath but it is different on each board.

To give you an idea of the size of the Legend boards, all cards in the game are “bridge-sized” so all slots around and in the Legend boards are sized to fit. Item and relic cards have a horizontal design so they can be slotted in easily, all others are vertical.

This game has 310 cards in total, and all of those cards will be turned over to Christopher for proofing tomorrow for grammar, icon placement, and keyword consistency. While that is happening, Darrell will continue to build out the rulebook, which is about 50% completed so far.

A large part of that will be completed once the cards are finalized for placement. By Friday, the rulebook will also go to Christopher for proofing.

As Darrell mentioned in his update, we are on track to have all files turned over to Panda Manufacturing by May 1!

Production

Currently, the only items left in production are paper/cardstock/punchboard. The rulebooks, Legend boards, Chapter maps, and cards will begin production as soon as they have all been approved by Panda. All wooden and plastic items have already been produced and are waiting at the factory. This is great and will save us a ton of time, as paper products are faster to produce than wooden or plastic ones.

We are still well on track to fulfill this Kickstarter by our estimated date of Q4 2020!

We hope to show you a few sneak peeks of the cards in our next update! Until then, stay safe and healthy!

Graphic Designer Update
almost 4 years ago – Sun, Apr 19, 2020 at 02:53:30 AM

Hello, Legends! Maggie here with a brief introductory note. We asked Darrell, our lead Graphic Designer on Legends of Sleepy Hollow, to write a note about how he's doing now that he is back to work, as we received so many messages and comments wishing him a speedy recovery. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words. Here's Darrell’s message:

"Hi everyone, Darrell Louder here, lead Graphic Designer for Legends of Sleepy Hollow. I was asked to give a quick update on my health for you all, as well as the status of the game.

I am very happy to report that everyone else in our house is on the mend. We had 3 official COVID-19 positive cases, myself included, but more likely all 5 of us had it and the remaining 2 were asymptomatic. I will say, one thing they don't talk about with the symptoms is the sheer exhaustion that sets in. Walking from the bedroom to the restroom seemed like you ran a mile and back.

As of last week, all symptoms for all of us have passed. They do not retest, at least in my state, so we have to remain isolated until everyone is symptom-free for 14 consecutive days. We do not know how it came into the house, we were VERY careful and proactive on the self-quarantining. Regardless, it got in, we dealt with it, and thankfully it was a mild enough case for all of us that there are no long term effects for anyone in the family.

There are more details on the events of the last several weeks on the next State of Games podcast, which is to drop Friday, April 17th here. If you are bored and want to know more or like to listen to podcasts...

Again though, all has passed, and I am back on track with Sleepy Hollow. I am sorry this brought further delays into an already delayed project, but I'm back in my groove working as quickly and diligently as possible to have this wrapped up and in the printer's hands before the conclusion of April. We have a lot of exciting things to show you all next week, but until then, back to work I go.

Take care and be well, please?"

Stay safe, and we will be back next Tuesday with your bi-weekly update!

COVID-19 Delays
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Apr 08, 2020 at 02:41:31 PM

Hello, Legends!

We hope that you are all staying safe and healthy during this time. We have been actively working through the challenges that the COVID-19 global pandemic has created, some of which we outlined in our March 19th update. In this update, we discuss factory approvals and our timeline.

Factory Approvals

Last update, we mentioned that the player board files had been given to the factory for approval. We are now happy to report they have been approved! We are waiting to receive white samples - mock-ups that don’t contain art - sometimes in the next few weeks, so we should hopefully be able to show you them in our next update!

Timeline

We are sad to report that the graphic designer working on Legends of Sleepy Hollow is currently awaiting test results to see if he has COVID-19 after having a member of his household contract it. His family member is recovering currently and doing well. He is unable to work at this time, and the game is currently on hold due to his intimate involvement.

We will keep you informed as we learn more about his health status, and appreciate everyone’s support and understanding.

Stay safe, stay healthy!

Late Update due to COVID-19
about 4 years ago – Thu, Mar 19, 2020 at 08:31:37 PM

Hello, Legends! Maggie here with your mid-March update. I apologize for the delayed update, we had to prepare our facility and employees for remote work, but we are officially up and running!

Effects of COVID-19

Our team took the time to prepare themselves and their families for social distancing, and that has placed us a few days behind. We are still on track to have all files sent to the factory sometime in the last week of March/first week of April.

We have continued to receive updates from the factory, and they are currently operating at 85%. This is causing delays for a lot of publishers, but we are still on track for Q4 of 2020. We will continue to keep you informed as we receive reports.

Graphic Design Update

I just received word this morning that the final card count is 300 cards, all bridge size. Check out the sample below!

Card Samples

The team is continuing to update cards and the Chapter boards. We have passed the player board files along to the factory for approval. We are excited to be able to share some of the final player boards in our next update!

Print-at-home content

As I mentioned at the beginning of this update, we are working on social distancing and that is really hard. I'm sure many of you are in a similar position, and our team worked to create some print-at-home content to help during this time! We have Lost in the Woods available, as well as upcoming content for Spirit Island: Jagged Earth and BRAWL, an old Cheapass Game (That's the name of the publisher. I'm not being rude, I promise).

Check it out here!

Stay safe, have fun, and see y'all next month!
